SouthernWorldwide.com – In a last-minute reprieve, the Primm family’s Nevada casino properties, on the verge of becoming a ghost town, have secured a new partner. This intervention comes just before a planned closure on July 4th, averting what many feared would be the complete demise of these iconic resorts.

Cory Clemetson, grandson of the founder and president of Primm South Real Estate Company, expressed his relief and optimism. He stated that they are pleased to have found a “qualified and like-minded partner” for the Primm properties.

The news follows a period of uncertainty after casino operator Affinity Interactive and its principal owner, Z Capital, announced their intention to cease operations. Affinity Interactive CEO Scott Butera had cited ongoing financial losses and unsuccessful investment efforts as reasons for the closure, deeming Primm “just not viable as a casino operation.”

Clemetson conveyed that his grandfather would have been “mortified” by the prospect of the closure and the potential impact on the employees. He highlighted the hope that the new operator, working alongside the Primm family, can facilitate a “much more responsible transition” for the dedicated staff.

The Primm Valley Casino Resorts complex, comprising three casinos, has been a significant stop for travelers for decades. It served as a popular destination for those en route to Las Vegas or seeking a more budget-friendly casino experience.

The decline began in December 2024 with the closure of Whiskey Pete’s. This was followed by Buffalo Bill’s Resort & Casino limiting its operations to special events in July 2025. The potential closure of the remaining facilities would have resulted in the loss of 624 hotel rooms and suites, along with 46,000 square feet of entertainment space.

Clemetson reminisced about the nostalgia many visitors feel for Primm. He believes people remember the “great days” when they would stop by as children, recalling attractions like a former roller coaster and the affordability of offerings such as a “$1 hot dog.”

He shared personal childhood memories of his grandfather, describing him as a “legendary figure” in Nevada. Clemetson recounted playful moments, such as stealing his grandfather’s toupee and running around, which were met with laughter.

The future of Primm may also be boosted by the development of a new airport nearby. The Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport (SNSA), formerly known as Ivanpah Valley Airport, is slated for construction along Interstate 15, close to Primm.

Construction is anticipated to commence by 2029, with completion projected as early as 2035. Clemetson believes this new airport will provide Primm with a unique advantage that few Las Vegas casinos currently possess.

The Herbst family, known for their involvement in gaming, retail, fuel, hospitality, and travel services, is involved in the new venture. Future plans are expected to include renovations, upgraded amenities, enhanced dining options, and infrastructure improvements.

Clemetson expressed his confidence in the “long-term prospects” for Primm. He emphasized the family’s commitment to preserving the legacy of his grandfather, a figure deeply ingrained in the state’s history.

While the exact future remains to be seen, Clemetson stated that they are “giving it our very best to get back to better days” for the Primm properties.
