SouthernWorldwide.com – President Donald Trump has announced his intention to nominate James M. McDonald as the new U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY).
This significant role is becoming available due to President Trump’s recent nomination of the current U.S. attorney for the district, Jay Clayton, to a cabinet position as the nation’s director of national intelligence.
“I am confident that Jamie will deliver strong results for our Country as the next United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, as he has the respect of, and will work fantastically with, our Law Enforcement Patriots, the Legal Community, and the Judicial Bench,” President Trump stated in a post on Truth Social, announcing his selection.
McDonald, who hails from Oklahoma, has prior experience as an assistant U.S. attorney within the SDNY. During Trump’s first term, he also served as the director of enforcement at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Similar to his predecessor Clayton, McDonald possesses strong connections to the esteemed law firm Sullivan & Cromwell, where he currently holds the position of senior partner.
His legal career also includes a clerkship for Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. McDonald is a graduate of Harvard College and the University of Virginia School of Law.
