SouthernWorldwide.com – A specially designed, American-made chicken coop has been installed at the Naval Observatory, the official residence of Vice President JD Vance.

A source close to the project confirmed that the coop was constructed without any cost to American taxpayers.

The coop was built by Carolina Coops, a family-owned American business that has been handcrafting high-quality chicken coops in the United States for the past 18 years.

Founded in 2008 by Matt and Gnon DuBoise, the company’s origins trace back to a personal desire for fresh eggs, eventually growing into a globally recognized business celebrated for its craftsmanship, woodworking, and animal husbandry expertise.

Matt DuBoise expressed that the project at the Naval Observatory stands out as one of the most significant moments in his professional career.

“I am profoundly grateful for this opportunity and enthusiastic about continuing to share the advantages and enjoyment of raising chickens with people nationwide, as well as demonstrating how a chicken coop can benefit families and impart valuable life lessons to children,” he stated. “This project is more than just a chicken coop; it represents the dedication of our entire team and the core values that have guided us from our inception.”

Vance will personally be responsible for the care of the chickens at the residence, and his children have already given names to the new chicks, according to a spokesperson.

This addition is particularly fitting, as the vice president has humorously remarked in the past about the substantial number of eggs his children consume for breakfast.

Carolina Coops utilizes premium materials to construct walk-in, completely predator-proof structures. These coops feature a distinctive deep litter system, which allows owners to avoid cleaning the coop for a year or more, as indicated on the company’s website.

The new addition to the historic facility was unveiled during the annual “Camp VPR” event, an initiative for local 4-H students in partnership with the USDA. This development aligns with a broader cultural trend toward sustainable living.

Backyard chicken coops have experienced a remarkable surge in popularity in recent years, partly fueled by the “Make America Healthy Again” movement.

Approximately 11 million households across the United States currently own backyard chickens, according to a 2025 study conducted by the American Pet Products Association.
