SouthernWorldwide.com – The inherent risks of courtside seating at a basketball game were starkly illustrated on Monday night when former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg narrowly avoided a collision.

During Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs, a loose ball careened towards the 84-year-old billionaire. Knicks guard Jose Alvarado, in a determined dive for the ball, ended up in the stands and came perilously close to hitting Bloomberg.

Alvarado immediately checked on Bloomberg, who appeared to be unharmed and waved away assistance from sideline personnel. Even comedian Dave Chappelle was seen approaching the former mayor to ensure he was alright.

The Spurs ultimately secured a 115-111 victory, marking their first win of the series and putting them on the scoreboard. Victor Wembanyama was the standout performer for San Antonio, contributing 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks, and two steals to the win.

Wembanyama commented on his approach to the intense playoff environment, stating, “I really tried to relax. The playoffs is like a whirlwind. It’s hard to put your head out of the water, and sometimes it’s like I don’t even (have) to watch the game back, by the way.

I just need a little time off, let my brain cool down and recover — recover as much for the body as for the mind.”

For the Knicks, star player Jalen Brunson led the team’s scoring with 32 points, complemented by five assists and five rebounds. Jose Alvarado added four points in his 12 minutes of playing time off the bench.

The series is set to continue with Game 4 on Wednesday night, returning to Madison Square Garden.
