SouthernWorldwide.com – Emergency workers in Venezuela on Tuesday rescued a 2-year-old boy who had been trapped beneath the rubble for six days.

This marked the only reported rescue of a survivor on the sixth day of operations following last week’s devastating earthquakes.

Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez announced the rescue via a Telegram post.

She stated that Jordanian emergency workers pulled the child from a collapsed building in La Guaira.

La Guaira experienced the worst destruction from the recent earthquakes.

The child has been identified by authorities as Klieber Moran.

Moran was rescued after enduring six days trapped beneath the rubble.

He was subsequently taken to a hospital for necessary treatment.

National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez conveyed optimism about finding more survivors.

During a televised address on Tuesday, he expressed the continued hope of finding people alive.

“We must hold onto the hope of continuing to find people alive beneath the rubble,” Jorge stated.

“Early this morning, a 2-year-old boy was rescued and is currently receiving care at a health center in Caracas.”

Rescue efforts have been ongoing since magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes struck Venezuela’s northern coast last Wednesday.

The death toll from the twin earthquakes had risen to 1,943 by Tuesday.

More than 10,500 people have been reported injured, according to Venezuelan officials.

On Monday, the death toll had stood at 1,719.

Tuesday’s rescue offered another glimmer of hope amidst the disaster that has devastated the South American country.

On Saturday, the U.S. State Department shared a video.

The video showed American search-and-rescue teams pulling an infant alive from beneath the rubble in Venezuela.

“Against impossible odds, hope endures,” the State Department posted on X.

A shipment of humanitarian supplies from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) arrived in Venezuela on Tuesday.

The shipment contained 47 metric tons of essential goods.

According to the United Nations, the supplies include emergency health kits for urgent medical care.

These kits are intended for safe births, newborn care, and disease prevention and treatment.

Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams from Virginia, California, and Florida were dispatched to Venezuela on Friday.

Their mission is to assist in searching collapsed buildings.

The State Department reported that the three USAR teams comprise 312 personnel.

They are also supported by 18 canine teams.

The teams consist of firefighters, physicians, structural engineers, and canine search specialists.

They were deployed with over 200,000 pounds of specialized rescue equipment.
