The vehicles included in this extensive recall are those equipped with park-by-wire functionality and the 10R80 transmission system. This specific combination is present in several popular models.
The affected models are:
- Lincoln Navigator and Expedition from model years 2018 through 2021.
- Explorer and Lincoln Aviator from model years 2020 and 2021.
- F-150 pickup trucks from model years 2020 and 2021.
According to the recall notice, Ford estimates that approximately 1% of the vehicles within this affected population may have the defect. While this percentage might seem small, the sheer volume of vehicles involved makes this a substantial recall.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicated that drivers will be alerted to this issue by a wrench warning light illuminating on their dashboard. Furthermore, the vehicle’s electronic parking brake will automatically engage if the system fails to enter park mode when commanded by the driver.
Ford is offering a remedy for affected owners. They can bring their recalled vehicles to an authorized Ford or Lincoln dealership. Technicians will update the vehicle’s system software and replace any damaged transmission components at no cost to the owner. This service aims to rectify the fault and ensure the safety of the vehicles.
In a separate recall, Ford is also addressing an issue with 36,046 Bronco vehicles manufactured between 2022 and 2026. The NHTSA stated that the fender flares on these vehicles might not be properly secured. If they become loose, they could detach and fall off, posing a hazard to other drivers on the road.
This secondary recall for the Bronco highlights Ford’s ongoing commitment to addressing safety concerns across its diverse vehicle lineup. Owners of the affected Bronco models will also receive instructions on how to have their vehicles inspected and repaired.
