SouthernWorldwide.com – Over 100,000 fireworks are being recalled nationwide due to potential malfunctions that could lead to explosion and burn risks, according to federal safety regulators. This recall comes just before the Fourth of July holiday.
Specifically, Winco is recalling its “Unity 7 Shot” 200-gram aerial cake fireworks. The CPSC states that these fireworks can tip over, presenting a significant risk of injury from explosions and burns. Approximately 87,000 of these units were sold between January and May.
Consumers who purchased these recalled fireworks can return them to the store where they were bought for a full refund. The recalled fireworks were sold at Pyro City stores and other independent retailers across the United States for prices ranging from $6 to $8 each.
Fortunately, no injuries related to these specific fireworks have been reported to the CPSC so far. The agency is emphasizing safety for consumers during the holiday period.
In addition to the “Unity 7 Shot” cakes, Winco’s “Roman Candles 8 Shot 3-Pack Firework Devices” are also under recall. These particular fireworks have a defect where they can blow out the side of their tube, posing a burn injury risk to users. Around 13,500 units of these Roman candles are affected by this recall.
For any customers who have questions regarding these recalls, Winco has provided contact information. A list of Pyro City store locations is also available for consumers to find nearby stores. The CPSC is urging consumers to check their fireworks for safety before use.
The market for consumer fireworks is substantial, with U.S. sales generating approximately $2.2 billion in revenue in 2025. This figure is according to the American Pyrotechnics Association, a key industry group. The revenue is expected to potentially increase this year.
This potential increase in sales is partly attributed to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, which will be celebrated on July 4th. The American Pyrotechnics Association anticipates a boost in consumer interest and spending on fireworks to commemorate the significant milestone.
