SouthernWorldwide.com – Paul Pelosi, 86, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is facing a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge following an incident where he allegedly struck a parked vehicle in Napa County, California, on Friday, and then drove away before his own car became disabled.

The Napa County Sheriff’s Office reported that the collision occurred on Friday afternoon in Yountville, a town situated just over an hour north of San Francisco.

A witness observed a brown convertible colliding with an unoccupied parked vehicle and then continuing its journey northward. Deputies later located the damaged convertible partially obstructing a nearby road and identified the driver as 86-year-old Paul Pelosi.

During the subsequent investigation, Pelosi reportedly informed deputies that he was aware of having hit something but was unsure of what it was. He continued to drive until his vehicle became inoperable, according to investigators.

Authorities have stated that alcohol was not a contributing factor in this particular crash.

“The investigation also determined that no alcohol (.00 on Preliminary Alcohol Screening Device) was detected upon testing, therefore Driving Under the Influence was ruled out,” the sheriff’s office stated.

Investigators have concluded that Pelosi was responsible for the collision. He was not taken into custody at the scene, a practice that the sheriff’s office notes is common for such misdemeanor offenses. Instead, deputies are forwarding the case to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for their review and potential prosecution.

The sheriff’s office also indicated that it would submit a driver re-evaluation referral to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), a standard procedure for elderly drivers.

This incident occurs more than two years after Pelosi pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of drunken driving causing injury, stemming from a separate crash in Napa County in May 2022.

In that previous case, he received a sentence of three years of probation, five days in jail (largely fulfilled through custody credits and a work program), a three-month DUI education course, the installation of an ignition interlock device for one year, along with fines and restitution to the injured party.

In contrast to the 2022 case, investigators have confirmed that DUI was not implicated in Friday’s collision.

Pelosi has remained in the public spotlight since the October 2022 hammer attack that took place inside the San Francisco residence he shares with the former House Speaker.

David DePape, the individual who broke into the Pelosi residence with the intent of confronting Nancy Pelosi before assaulting Paul Pelosi with a hammer, was sentenced in October 2024 to life imprisonment on state charges. This followed a prior federal prison sentence of 30 years.

The attack left Paul Pelosi with significant injuries, including a skull fracture.

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi has represented California’s 11th congressional district, which includes San Francisco, for several decades.
