SouthernWorldwide.com – Attendees at the America 250 State Fair expressed bewilderment as to why the Democratic Party waited until a rape allegation surfaced to distance themselves from U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner. They argued that the party had overlooked a series of prior controversies before finally urging the Maine candidate to withdraw from the race.
“They realize the party is sinking, and one of the ways to keep it from going under is to get rid of the dead weight. He is a piece of dead weight,” one attendee remarked.
Following reports on Monday detailing accusations of rape by Jenny Rapricot, a woman Platner previously dated, Democratic Party members began to withdraw their support for the progressive Senate candidate from Maine.
Bob from Maryland speculated about the Democrats’ motives, stating, “I think they are so worried about not regaining the House or Senate, or the presidency, that they would do anything.”
Rapricot recounted her allegations of rape against Platner to CNN and Politico. She claims that in 2021, Platner trespassed into her home while intoxicated and sexually assaulted her, despite her repeated requests for him to stop.
Adding to the controversy, within 24 hours of these reports becoming public, The Washington Post published accusations from Lyndsey Fifield, who also dated Platner. Fifield alleged that Platner would remove condoms during sex in a “sneaky way.”
Rapricot’s accusation served as the final catalyst for prominent Democrats, who had previously stood by Platner amidst months of controversy and allegations that arose during his campaign for the U.S. Senate.
These controversies included a Nazi-linked tattoo, allegations of being an abusive partner, and a series of lewd Reddit posts. The posts reportedly ranged from comments about masturbating in portable toilets to mocking a wounded U.S. soldier, marking what appeared to be the breaking point for the party after a campaign rife with scandals.
“What happened to ‘believe all women’?” questioned Karen from Maryland, pushing back against a phrase frequently used by Democrats regarding allegations of sexual misconduct. “It’s disgusting that they allowed this man to continue for so long.”
She continued, “It just makes you sick to your stomach.”
“This latest scandal should be his undoing,” predicted Rory from North Carolina. “He should not be eligible to serve in Congress based on past actions, and especially with this current woman coming forward against him.”
Sandy from Virginia argued that Platner’s rise reflects a broader voter frustration with the political establishment.
Another attendee suggested that “normal Democrats” would not support Platner or other far-left progressive candidates vying for congressional seats in the upcoming election.
“With the rise of the DSA, coupled with him, the normal Democrats simply are not going to tolerate it,” Nancy stated. “Everyone has had enough.”
“In my opinion, I think he should stay in the race,” commented Fred from Texas. “It will be easier for us to defeat him.”
The Democrats’ calls for Platner’s withdrawal come just days before Maine’s July 13 deadline for replacing him on the general election ballot in November. If he withdraws before 5 p.m. on Sunday, state Democrats would have until July 27 to select a replacement.
Platner’s campaign announced on Monday that he is “taking the time to reflect on the best path forward.”
