SouthernWorldwide.com – Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic has announced his decision to withdraw from playing with the Slovenian national team this summer. His focus will instead be on his daughters amidst an ongoing custody battle with his former fiancée, Anamaria Goltes.
Doncic shared this news via an Instagram post early Tuesday, stating he intends to dedicate the summer to spending time with his children. He expressed that his daughters are his highest priority in life.
A message posted to his Instagram Stories read, “I love my daughters more than anything, and they will always come first in my life.” He further elaborated on the difficulties he has faced in seeing them over the past eight months. This has led to a challenging decision between representing Slovenia and being present for his daughters.
“I have given everything to representing Slovenia and I am disappointed that I will not be able to play for my country this summer,” the statement continued. “But right now, my daughters and my responsibilities as a father are my priority.”

Earlier this year, Doncic had revealed that he ended his engagement with Goltes. The reason cited was his inability to have his daughters with him in the U.S. during the basketball season.
The couple became engaged in July 2023. Their daughters were born in November 2023 and December 2025. It’s noted that Doncic had previously traveled to Slovenia when his younger daughter was born, taking time away from the Lakers.
TMZ Sports previously reported that Goltes had filed a petition in California. This petition sought child support and attorneys’ fees.
Doncic had previously told ESPN in March, “I love my daughters more than anything, and I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn’t been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement.” He reiterated his commitment to his daughters’ happiness and his ongoing efforts to be with them. He emphasized his dedication to providing them with the best possible life.
