SouthernWorldwide.com – House Democrats are vocally questioning the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) decision to withhold its internal 2024 election review, particularly in light of the party’s significant losses during that election cycle.
Representative Glenn Ivey, a Democrat from Maryland, expressed his view that the report has not been released because it would be “embarrassing” to some, suggesting the party “got our butts kicked.” He indicated that the content of the review might be difficult for certain individuals to face.
When asked about the reasons for the report’s non-release, Representative Jerry Nadler, a Democrat from New York, stated he had “no idea” why it was being kept private. He also expressed uncertainty about whether it should be made public.
Following the extensive defeats experienced by the Democratic Party in the 2024 elections, the DNC initiated an internal review, often referred to as an “autopsy.” This investigation aimed to pinpoint the specific reasons for the party’s failure to secure victory in the presidential race and to maintain or gain a majority in Congress.
Representative Rashida Tlaib, a Democrat from Michigan, has asserted that party leadership neglected long-standing Democratic constituents and failed to fulfill crucial promises while in positions of power. She believes the truth is being concealed.
“They don’t want people to know the truth,” Tlaib remarked. “They messed up. They didn’t listen to their Democratic base.”
Representative Hank Johnson, a Democrat from Georgia, voiced his support for releasing the report, aligning with Vice President Harris’s stance. He stated, “I stand with Vice President Harris in wanting to get it released. I’d like to see what the conclusions are.”
Robert Garcia, a Democrat from California, also advocated for the report’s release, emphasizing the importance of reviewing past performance. “I’ve said they should release it, and there’s no question,” Garcia commented. “The report got done. I think it’s good to always review why things were successful or not.”

Amidst the growing controversy surrounding the autopsy report, divergent opinions have surfaced regarding its potential impact on Vice President Harris’s standing in the upcoming presidential election, especially as she is rumored to be considering a 2028 bid. According to Axios, several Democrats, including advisors to potential 2028 presidential hopefuls, believe that keeping the report confidential provides Harris with an unfair advantage by preventing a renewed examination of her unsuccessful 2024 campaign.
Conversely, DNC officials have put forth the argument that the report is being withheld until after the midterm elections. Their stated intention is to maintain the party’s focus on regaining control of the House and Senate in November. DNC official Martin stated that if releasing the autopsy would not aid Democrats in the midterms, then it serves merely as a “distraction.”
“I assume if they thought public release would help the party, they would release it,” Nadler responded when questioned about the timing of the report’s potential public release relative to the midterms.
Other Democrats have argued that a public release of the autopsy before the midterms would foster greater transparency and assist the party in consolidating its efforts before the November elections.
“It should come out as soon as possible so we all can learn from it,” Representative Shri Thanedar, a Democrat from Michigan, stated when asked about the report’s release prior to the midterms. He believes timely access to the information is crucial for learning and improvement.
“The more information you have, the better off you are as we approach these elections coming up in November,” Johnson reiterated. He stressed the benefit of having comprehensive data and insights.
“There should be no secrets — no big deal. Let’s let the truth come out,” Johnson added, advocating for openness and the disclosure of findings.
