SouthernWorldwide.com – Southampton has been disqualified from the Championship playoffs after admitting to extensively spying on their opponents.
The English Football League has reinstated Middlesbrough to compete in the Wembley final this Saturday against Hull City. This match is considered the most lucrative in soccer.
The ultimate prize for the winner of this final is promotion to the Premier League.
Southampton faced charges earlier this month concerning a violation of league regulations. They were accused of illegally filming Middlesbrough’s training sessions prior to their semi-final clash.
Despite the charges, Southampton managed to win their two-legged semi-final tie, bringing them just one game away from promotion to the top flight of English football.
The league announced that the south coast club has since confessed to additional breaches throughout the current season. These further violations involved games against Oxford United and Ipswich.
As a consequence of these repeated offenses, Southampton has also been penalized with a four-point deduction for the upcoming season.
