SouthernWorldwide.com – In the bustling metropolis of New York City, a Republican congressional hopeful contends that the city is being “run into the ground” under the current leadership, citing escalating taxes and rampant crime as key concerns fueling a growing backlash.
Caroline Shinkle, a Republican candidate vying for a seat in a traditionally Democratic district, believes that conservative principles offer a viable path to reversing the city’s perceived decline.
Shinkle expressed her strong conviction that New York City is not being managed effectively, stating, “This is no way to run a city unless you’re trying to run it into the ground.”
She argues that voters in this deeply liberal district are increasingly turning away from progressive political ideologies, driven by mounting anxieties over public safety and the escalating cost of living.

Shinkle asserted, “We, as the people of Manhattan, cannot afford to elect another far-left politician to represent us in Congress, not when they represent the same failed thinking that has sent New York City into its spiral of decline.”
As the sole Republican challenger, Shinkle is positioning herself to succeed the retiring Representative Jerry Nadler, a Democrat. Her background includes a career as a corporate lawyer and academic achievements from prestigious institutions like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Law School.
She emphasized that “common sense” conservative principles are precisely what New York City needs to recover and thrive.
“My candidacy is about reversing that trend line, and every Democrat running in this race will continue to add to the problem, whereas I will be part of the solution,” she stated. “It is not political, it’s common sense, it is about survival and getting back to basics.”

According to Shinkle, these guiding principles are resonating not only with conservative voters but also with individuals across the entire political spectrum.
“Our message of common sense economic empowerment is resonating with voters of all political affiliations throughout the district, Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike, because they understand that we are in a critical emergency situation,” she explained.
She specifically criticized Mayor Mamdani’s tax policies, labeling them a “pathetic attempt” to extract more revenue from the wealthy, and warned that such measures would likely drive both individuals and businesses away from New York City.
“Rather than building the tax base in the city, Mamdani’s pathetic attempt at forcing people to pay their ‘fair share’ is really translating to citizens paying their fair share of moving expenses to leave the city,” Shinkle remarked, adding that the current situation in New York City has become “out of control.”
“We just have to look at the reality around us,” she urged. “Out-of-control taxes, out-of-control regulatory burdens, out-of-control rent, to out-of-control cost of living. Pro-criminal crime policies, condoning anti-Semitism. It’s nuts.”
Mayor Mamdani’s “tax the rich” agenda has faced significant opposition since he assumed office in January. Notably, Citadel CEO Ken Griffin has pledged to increase investments in Florida rather than New York.

Shinkle contended that these policies are detrimental to successful businesses, discouraging rather than fostering their growth and prosperity.
“Taxation through appropriation. It’s time for him to drop-kick this un-American, anti-success worldview and start building a welcoming environment for New York businesses and families to thrive.”
However, Shinkle emphasized that in a city with millions of taxpayers, there is no justification for soaring costs, stating there is “no reason why the cost of living has to be sky-high here in New York City.”
Beyond taxation, Shinkle highlighted that constituents frequently voice concerns about public safety, an issue they feel is not being adequately addressed by Democrats. She asserted that New Yorkers deserve to use public transportation and navigate their daily lives without fear.
“Safe streets and being able to walk to dinner in the evening and take the subway without fearing for your life is good practice wherever you live,” she stated. “You cannot have a vibrant economy if you’re too scared to go out and participate in the economy,” she added.
Despite her affection for the city, Shinkle observed a significant “deterioration of morale” among its residents.
“New York City is where I’ve chosen to live my life and build my career,” she shared. “I’ve been living here and working here in the district in New York 12, and I’ve seen the degradation of the city and the deterioration of morale here.”
Shinkle expressed confidence that her “pro-growth, pro-business, pro-worker policies” will lead to tangible improvements in the lives of New Yorkers and help preserve the city’s status as a “global capital of enterprise.”
“It is time to restore pro-growth, pro-business, pro-worker policies to dramatically improve quality of life here and to ensure that New York City remains the global capital of enterprise,” she declared. “It’s time to shock the system and vote Caroline Shinkle to Congress in November.”
As Republicans strive to maintain their slim majority in the House of Representatives, Shinkle, being the sole Republican candidate in the race, will automatically advance to the general election.
Voters in New York’s 12th Congressional District are scheduled to cast their ballots on June 23 to select from a field of Democratic candidates, which includes George Conway, Jack Schlossberg, Micah Lasher, and Alex Bores.
