SouthernWorldwide.com – Mike Santana successfully defended his TNA World Championship against Steve Maclin in a highly anticipated grudge match on Thursday night’s “Impact.” The bout, which had been halted previously due to an injury to Maclin, culminated in a dramatic finish that solidified Santana’s reign as the face of TNA.

The tension leading up to the main event was palpable. Director of Operations Daria Rae addressed Maclin before his entrance, attempting to galvanize him for the monumental task ahead. Rae reminded Maclin of his controversial “firing” and the company’s subsequent attempt to distance themselves from him.

“You remember when you got fired? Of course you do. You know what’s so interesting about this company? Everybody loves to brag about loyalty, that is until it’s inconvenient,” Rae stated, her words aimed at a stoic Maclin. She highlighted how his actions against Tom Hannifan had turned the entire company against him, yet she saw his value despite the perceived liability.

Rae emphasized Maclin’s capabilities when focused and his unique opportunity to “rip the heart right out of this company” by defeating Santana. She believed Maclin was the only one worthy of carrying the TNA title.

Adding to the pre-match intrigue, Number 1 contender Eric Young also offered Maclin a warning. Young advised Maclin that the winner of the title match would have to face him at his “most masochist.” Maclin, in turn, vowed to hospitalize Santana, attempting to confront the champion before their scheduled bout.

The match itself was a brutal affair from the outset. Both competitors exchanged powerful blows, with each gaining periods of dominance. Santana found himself on the receiving end after Maclin’s strategic use of the ring apron and a table set up on the outside. Maclin exploited a slight limp in Santana’s left leg, sustained after a failed aerial maneuver.

As the match neared its climax, the intensity escalated. Santana unleashed a Rolling Buck 50, but Maclin showed incredible resilience, refusing to stay down. Even a subsequent Blue Thunder Bomb failed to secure the pinfall.

A critical moment occurred when Maclin was caught on the top rope, leading to Santana hitting an enziguri that sent Maclin crashing through the table he had previously set up. Santana followed up with a frog splash, but Maclin kicked out at the two-count.

In a desperate attempt, Santana signaled for his finisher, “Spin the Block.” However, Maclin collapsed before the move could be executed. Santana, showing concern, checked on Maclin, but this proved to be a tactical error. Maclin seized the opportunity, hitting a superkick and attempting a pin, which was ultimately unsuccessful.

With a final surge of energy, Santana managed to hit “Spin the Block” and secured the pinfall victory over Maclin. As “Impact” went off the air, Santana emphatically declared, “This is my house.”

The night’s events also saw The System celebrating Cedric Alexander’s X Division Championship victory over Leon Slater. Alexander, addressing the crowd, taunted Slater for coming close to breaking the record for the youngest champion.

“Leon Slater, you were one day away, one day away, one day away, I’ll say it again, he was one day away from accomplishing his dream. One day away from becoming the record maker. No, see, last week, I became the record taker,” Alexander proclaimed, dismissing the boos. He asserted his status as the new standard in the X Division and the “signature champion of TNA.”

Alexander then called out Fabian Aichner, who had appeared at the end of his championship match. Aichner responded, delivering a message to Alexander and The System, stating his pursuit of respect, redemption, and recognition.

“Buona Sera, System. Last week, I didn’t come out here for no reason. I came out here to make a name for myself – respect, redemption and recognition. That’s why I’m here. So, if you guys want to call yourself the best in TNA, perfect. You go right ahead because the bigger the obstacle, the bigger the fight, the better I become. I’m not just some gimmick. I am a future TNA champion. And you know what? That X Division title is looking real nice. So Cedric, enjoy your moment while it lasts, my man, because I’m not here to stand in line. I am here to take my spot,” Aichner declared.

A brief skirmish ensued as Bear Bronson and Brian Meyers attempted to attack Aichner, but he managed to evade them. Aichner then dumped Eddie Edwards to the floor. Alexander initiated an attack on Aichner, but Aichner countered, avoiding the “Lumbar Check” and locking Alexander in a chokehold.

Aichner stood tall in the ring as The System pulled Alexander out. It was announced that Aichner and Eddie Edwards would face each other on the following week’s “Impact.”

Elsewhere, Stacks and his fiancée Arianna Grace were present for the match between Indi Hartwell and Elayna Black. Grace, a former TNA Knockouts World Champion, had a history of animosity with Hartwell, whom she accused of being “obsessed” with her.

The match concluded when Stacks’ attempt to distract the referee backfired, allowing Grace to push Hartwell off the top rope and commence an attack. Grace expressed her frustration with her father, Santino Marella, attributing her loss of the Knockouts title to him and claiming the current champion, Lei Ying Lee, did not deserve her opportunity.

Marella, TNA’s director of authority, entered the ring and criticized Grace’s “classless” behavior, stating her attitude needed to be “grounded.” He then turned his attention to Stacks, expressing his disgust and accusing him of filling Grace’s head with “garbage.”

As Marella prepared to use his signature cobra on Stacks, Daria Rae intervened. Rae informed Marella that any match he wished to have with Stacks would require submission to “the board” for approval. It was later announced that the match had been approved, and Marella would face Stacks one-on-one on next week’s “Impact.”
