SouthernWorldwide.com – YouTube is implementing updates to its policies to provide clearer indications when videos that appear realistic have been generated using artificial intelligence.
This initiative comes in light of the increasing volume of AI-generated videos, images, and music flooding social media platforms.
Alphabet-owned YouTube announced on Wednesday that it will enhance the visibility of an existing label on videos. This label will disclose if the content has been altered or created with AI.
For longer videos, the label will be positioned directly beneath the video player, just above the description. For shorter content, the disclosure will be displayed as an overlay on the video itself.

“If it looks real but was made with AI, viewers will know immediately,” stated Rene Ritchie, a YouTube creator, in a video explaining the changes.
YouTube already mandates that creators disclose their use of AI for realistic content. The platform is also introducing new tools to automate the identification and labeling of AI-generated material.
YouTube emphasized that these changes aim to “balance transparency with creator control.” The platform clarified that a disclosure label alone will not impact a video’s recommendation performance or its eligibility for monetization.
Other prominent online content providers are also taking steps to address the surge of AI-generated content, often referred to as “slop.” In April, the audio streaming service Spotify introduced a “Verified by Spotify” certification badge.
This badge signifies whether a song was created by AI or a human artist. The company stated that the badge is intended to offer audiences “more insight and transparency into the music and artists” they engage with.
