Kross, whose real name is Kevin Kross, has carved out a formidable reputation in the professional wrestling circuit. His career has seen him ascend to the highest echelons, including a recent victory in Battle Riot VIII to claim the Major League Wrestling (MLW) world heavyweight championship. His in-ring performances are often characterized by a relentless and aggressive style, earning him the moniker “killer.”
However, beneath the tough exterior and the “killer” gimmick, Kross possesses a heart of gold. This softer aspect of his personality recently came to light when he shared a deeply personal and life-altering story about how a stray kitten entered his life and, against all odds, changed his relationship with animals.
He recounted the experience with his wife, fellow professional wrestler Scarlett Bordeaux. Kross admitted that he had been severely allergic to cats his entire life, to the point of experiencing extreme reactions. “So, I’m allergic to cats, like deathly allergic,” Kross explained.
The turning point occurred about a year and a half ago when a kitten appeared at their doorstep. The couple had often noticed stray cats in their vicinity and, even during their travels, had felt a compulsion to feed them. This particular kitten, however, was clearly a stray, appearing distressed and without any identification.
Scarlett initially put out some tuna for the kitten, a gesture they had made before. After a period of absence, the kitten returned, still without a home. Kross and Bordeaux began to feed it whenever they saw it, a routine that gradually became more consistent.
The situation escalated when the kitten started leaving “gifts” at their door, a behavior Kross later learned is a sign of affection and trust in cats. This gesture, coupled with the kitten’s persistent presence, began to chip away at Kross’s reservations, despite his severe allergies. He recalled how any previous contact with cats would result in hives, swollen eyes, and necessitate a trip to the hospital.
A critical moment arose when a hurricane threatened the area. The couple felt compelled to protect the vulnerable kitten. Kross, despite his allergies, found himself interacting with the animal, even petting it, which initially triggered hives. However, he noticed that over time, his allergic reactions on his hand began to subside.
The bond deepened further when the kitten was attacked and injured. Kross and Bordeaux immediately took the cat to a veterinarian, with Kross investing significant resources to ensure the animal received the best possible care and recovered fully.
Remarkably, the cat integrated seamlessly into their household, forming close relationships with their dogs. Kross described how the animals now sleep and play together, a testament to the cat’s successful integration. He also noted how their dogs would alert them when the cat was at the door during its stray days, and how they facilitated cautious introductions from a distance.
The most astonishing development for Kross was the complete remission of his lifelong cat allergies. “And now the cat lives with us and I don’t have allergies to the cat anymore,” he expressed with disbelief and joy. He described his first experience owning a cat as “awesome,” highlighting its hilarious personality, intelligence, and ability to understand and follow directives, even responding to its name when called from the backyard.
Kross concluded that while “Killer” might be his ring persona, his actions and feelings outside the ring paint a much different, far more compassionate picture. The story serves as a heartwarming reminder that even the toughest individuals can have their hearts melted by the simple act of kindness and the unconditional love of an animal.
