SouthernWorldwide.com – New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers was mistakenly stopped by police in Paramus, New Jersey, on Tuesday in connection to a road rage incident where a firearm was allegedly brandished.
The incident involved a vehicle similar to Nabers’ car, leading to the stop. According to reports, the individual involved in the road rage incident reportedly displayed a gun.
Nabers’ vehicle was searched by authorities, but no weapon was discovered, and he was not issued any citations. The Giants player was subsequently allowed to leave the scene.
It appears to have been a case of mistaken identity, and it remains unclear if the police were able to locate the actual suspect involved in the road rage incident.
The 22-year-old wideout is currently in the process of recovering from an ACL tear he suffered during the Giants’ Week 4 victory against the Los Angeles Chargers last season.
Nabers has undergone two surgeries to address his injured knee. The initial surgery focused on repairing his ACL and meniscus, performed on October 28. A subsequent surgery in the spring was conducted to remove scar tissue that was causing stiffness in his knee.
This second surgery is not anticipated to impact the projected timeline for Nabers’ return to the field.
Prior to his injury, Nabers was on pace for a highly productive sophomore season. In the four games he played, he recorded 18 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns.
As a rookie, Nabers set a franchise record with 109 catches, accumulating 1,204 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, despite facing challenges with quarterback play.
The Giants organization is hopeful that Nabers will continue to excel as the team’s primary wide receiver, even as they have made significant changes to their wide receiver corps this offseason.
Wan’Dale Robinson, who had 92 catches for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns last season, departed in free agency to join the Tennessee Titans. To fill the void, the Giants signed Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III during the free agency period.
In the NFL Draft, the Giants traded up in the third round to select Malachi Fields. Additionally, they signed tight end Isaiah Likely, providing the young quarterback with another offensive weapon.
This week, the team also added depth at wide receiver by signing Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Braxton Berrios. These acquisitions offer ample coverage should Nabers miss any time at the beginning of the upcoming season.
