The research team posits that NOX4 plays a crucial role in muscle self-repair and adaptation to the physical stresses of exercise.
When NOX4 was experimentally removed from the muscles of mice, the animals exhibited reduced strength, a loss of muscle mass, and developed health issues commonly linked to the aging process.
Furthermore, the study revealed that exercise had the effect of restoring NOX4 levels in older mice.
