SouthernWorldwide.com – Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the RBC Canadian Open due to a hand injury, raising concerns about his readiness for the upcoming U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.

The five-time major champion was unable to compete in the final round on Sunday morning after experiencing discomfort during Saturday’s play. The PGA Tour event announced his withdrawal shortly before his scheduled tee time.

Koepka, who was six under par and seven shots off the lead heading into the final round at TPC Toronto, cited a problem with his grip as the cause of his discomfort.

“I don’t know what it is. I’m struggling to grip the club with my ring finger and pinkie finger, so can’t grip it,” Koepka explained following his third-round 72 on Saturday. “So the club is kind of just, my fingers would come loose, it was kind of numb. I don’t know what the deal was, but hopefully we’ll figure it out.”

He also mentioned that this was a new type of injury for him, which unexpectedly flared up during his participation in Canada.

This hand injury comes at a particularly inopportune time for the 36-year-old golfer. The U.S. Open, the year’s third major championship, is scheduled to begin next week at Shinnecock Hill, the same venue where Koepka secured his second U.S. Open title in 2018.

Since rejoining the PGA Tour under the Returning Member Program at the start of 2026, following his departure from LIV Golf, Koepka had been performing consistently well in the lead-up to the U.S. Open.

In the eleven tournaments prior to the Canadian Open, Koepka had achieved six top-20 finishes. This impressive streak included a tie for 12th place at The Masters in April.

Koepka’s withdrawal also means he misses an opportunity to earn crucial FedEx Cup points. As a player without guaranteed status for the remaining Signature Events on the PGA Tour schedule, these points are particularly valuable.

Given his past success at Shinnecock and his strong, consistent play throughout the current season, Koepka was considered one of the strong contenders who could contend for the U.S. Open title. However, his current injury status now casts a significant doubt over his participation and performance in the major championship, which begins on Thursday.
