SouthernWorldwide.com – A significant shift is occurring in American education, with First Lady Melania Trump and the White House at the forefront of this movement.
They are directly addressing the nation’s concerning statistics in reading and overall education, while also preparing children for the advent of artificial intelligence (AI).
Melania Trump initiated the “Foster the Future” summit on March 24. The event aimed to showcase how AI can serve as an educational tool to broaden children’s horizons, rather than being perceived as a threat or a crutch.
Among the prominent participants was MacKenzie Price, the CEO of Alpha Schools. This private organization is establishing schools nationwide with the goal of encouraging children to view AI as a collaborator and guide in their learning journey, while also imparting essential “life skills” for a fulfilling and productive existence.
FIRST LADY MELANIA TRUMP: AI COULD IMPROVE TEACHING AND HELP DELIVER A WORLD-CLASS EDUCATION TO OUR CHILDREN
As concerns escalate about AI’s growing influence on our culture and economy, and whether our children are adequately prepared for the forthcoming AI revolution, the White House can find a strong ally in the current educational movement gaining momentum across the country.
This movement champions the critical thinking and comprehension skills that future generations will require to safeguard themselves from manipulation and misinformation, and to thrive in a world increasingly shaped by AI.
This approach is known as the Classical Education movement. It is spearheaded by educators, parents, and philosophers who are disillusioned with the perceived drift of schools towards ideological indoctrination, particularly socialism. Unlike some educational advocates on the left, proponents of classical education are dedicated to advancing the interests of all children, irrespective of their socioeconomic background, ethnicity, or origin, and to preserving the future of Western civilization.
WHY A CLASSICAL EDUCATION MAY BE THE KEY TO HUMANITY’S FUTURE IN THE AI ERA
Classical education is a comprehensive learning methodology that prioritizes the cultivation of wisdom and virtue. It achieves this through the study of the liberal arts, beginning with grammar, logic, and rhetoric, and extending to history and significant literary works.
This curriculum has been instrumental in supporting Western and Judeo-Christian civilization for millennia. Instead of a fragmented system of superficial electives or an excessive focus on vocational training, classical education is grounded in foundational academic subjects and the study of Great Books. Its aim is to nurture the entire child, foster a lifelong passion for learning, instill a deep respect for moral principles, and emphasize the importance of civic engagement and leadership.

Classical education aligns with the ancient Greek philosopher Epictetus’s assertion that “Only the educated are free.” It posits that education’s purpose is to teach children to appreciate goodness, truth, and beauty, and to embrace the best of what America and Western civilization have to offer.
SCHOOL CHOICE IS BOOMING AND FAMILIES ARE WINNING AS THE EDUCATION CARTEL CRUMBLES
As of 2024, there are over 1,500 classical education schools in the United States, encompassing public, private, and charter institutions, serving approximately 700,000 students. The movement is experiencing robust expansion, with more than 250 new schools established since 2020.
This private educational initiative, catering to learners from early childhood through university, has effectively filled the educational void left by government schools and their associated teacher unions. In these traditional settings, students are frequently deprived of genuine learning, and educators are sometimes accused of using the classroom for personal political agendas.
Rather than imparting ideological or agenda-driven content, classical education focuses on teaching students *how* to think, rather than *what* to think.
If any skills are poised to equip younger generations for the future and to complement and enhance even the most advanced classroom technologies, including AI, it is the enduring principles of classical education.
Alpha Schools is implementing an innovative approach to the school day through accelerated learning, utilizing AI as a guide for in-depth exploration of subjects like history and geometry. The afternoons are then dedicated to “life skills,” ranging from learning to ride a bicycle for younger students to managing a bank account and even starting a business for older ones.
Reading, writing, and reasoning – the core components of the classical education curriculum – are as vital for leading a strong and happy life as financial investment or managing an Airbnb. Therefore, incorporating “life skills” such as understanding grammar and rhetoric, as generations of students have done, and studying the timeless philosophies of Plato, Aristotle, prominent Judeo-Christian thinkers, and esteemed American authors like Mark Twain, Stephen Crane, and E.B. White, should be integral to preparing our children for the technological future.
In essence, classical education presents a significant opportunity for “Fostering the Future” and for all of us to view an AI-dominated world with greater optimism, and to recognize America’s children as our most valuable intellectual asset.
