SouthernWorldwide.com – A former mixed martial artist has tragically passed away after bravely saving four young girls from a dangerous current in one of the world’s deepest lakes.
Medet Zheenaliev, aged 30, was in his home country of Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday when he noticed four girls swimming in the expansive Lake Issyk-Kul. Reports indicate that one of the girls was being pulled under by a strong current.
Witnesses state that Zheenaliev, along with a friend, immediately entered the water to rescue the children. However, the courageous fighter tragically never resurfaced, according to information from The Sun.

Divers were dispatched to search for Zheenaliev, and sadly, his body was discovered the following day.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of powerful water currents. In a separate tragic event, a father recently lost his life while attempting to save his 7-year-old daughter after a large wave swept her out to sea off a California beach.
Lake Issyk-Kul is renowned for its immense depth, ranking as the ninth deepest lake globally. It plunges to an astonishing depth of 2,192 feet, making it a formidable body of water.
Zheenaliev had a notable, albeit brief, career in professional mixed martial arts. He participated in four professional bouts, achieving a balanced record of two wins and two losses.
His MMA journey began with a victory over Vladimir Kravchuk on September 23, 2017, at Fightpro’s Battle for the Belt event held in Moscow. Zheenaliev secured this debut win through an impressive armbar submission just 2 minutes and 8 seconds into the fight.
Six months later, at the Battle on Volga 3 event, he continued his winning streak by defeating Shamil Temirkhanov via a first-round knockout, showcasing his striking prowess.
His subsequent fights did not yield the same success. In his third professional bout, Zheenaliev was forced to tap out to a rear-naked choke in the second round against Akhmadkhan Bokov at the Road to M-1 event on April 7, 2018.
Following this loss, Zheenaliev took an extended break from competition, lasting nearly 17 months. He returned to the octagon to face Makkasharip Zaynukov at GFC 16. Unfortunately, doctors made the decision to stop the fight after the first round, awarding the victory to Zaynukov.
