SouthernWorldwide.com – Kia America is initiating a recall for nearly 463,000 Telluride midsize crossover SUVs, covering model years 2020 through 2024. The vehicles are at risk of catching fire, whether they are in motion or parked.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that the issue stems from the front power seat motor. This motor may overheat under certain conditions, potentially leading to a fire.
The overheating can be triggered by a stuck power seat slide knob or if a previous recall repair was not performed correctly. These scenarios can cause the motor to overheat, posing a fire risk while the vehicle is being operated or when it is parked.
Given the severity of the risk, the NHTSA is strongly advising owners of the affected Telluride models to take a precautionary measure. They should park their vehicles outdoors and ensure they are kept away from any structures until the necessary repair for this latest recall can be completed.
Kia dealerships will be performing the repair free of charge. The remedy involves the installation of an electronic fuse assembly. This component is designed to mitigate the risk of the power seat motor overheating.
The agency also indicated that owners can expect to receive official notification letters regarding this recall. These letters are scheduled to be mailed out on August 13, providing detailed information about the issue and the steps owners need to take.
