SouthernWorldwide.com – King Charles III has expressed his profound shock and sadness following the “unexplained” death of a British soldier at a horse show he attended earlier this week.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday evening during a display by the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, at the prestigious Royal Windsor Horse Show.
The soldier, whose identity has not yet been released, fell after departing the arena. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, their injuries were deemed too severe, and they passed away at the scene, as confirmed by Thames Valley Police in a statement.
Authorities have indicated that the horse show will proceed as scheduled on Saturday. However, a planned display by the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, has been cancelled in light of the fatality.
King Charles III was present at the horse show, held within the grounds of Windsor Castle, alongside his younger brother, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, and his wife, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh. Their daughter, Lady Louise, was also involved in the event, working at the show, and the King’s sister, Princess Anne, was in attendance.
Following the soldier’s death, King Charles made an effort to connect with members of the King’s Troop on Saturday, after his return to the show.
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace, speaking to The London Times, stated that while His Majesty and other members of the royal family were at the arena when the incident occurred, they were not informed of its gravity until later.
The spokesperson further elaborated, “The King was greatly shocked and saddened to have learned subsequently of the troop member’s death and will be in touch with the family to share his personal condolences. The thoughts and most heartfelt sympathies of the whole royal family are with the victim’s loved ones and military colleagues at this time of grief.”
The Royal Windsor Horse Show is a unique annual event that permits public access to the normally private grounds of Windsor Castle.
On Saturday morning, the police issued an appeal to the public for any information that could shed light on the “unexplained but non-suspicious death” of the soldier.

“At this stage, we have not found any suspicious circumstances,” the police statement on Facebook read. “We are working with the British Army, Ministry of Defence, the Defence Accident Investigation Branch and Royal Windsor Horse Show organisers HPower to gather as much information as possible to understand how this happened.”
