SouthernWorldwide.com – Republican Jon Bonck, with the backing of former President Donald Trump, has secured a victory in the GOP primary runoff for Texas’s 38th Congressional District.

Bonck emerged victorious on Tuesday, positioning himself to potentially replace Representative Wesley Hunt in the solidly Republican district located in the Houston area.

His opponent in the runoff was Shelly deZevallos, who is a pilot and also serves as the president of the West Houston Airport. Bonck had a strong showing in the initial March primary but did not secure the outright majority needed to win the nomination at that stage.

According to results compiled by Ballotpedia from the early March primary, Bonck garnered 47.7% of the vote, while deZevallos advanced to the runoff with 18.6%.

Bonck will now proceed to face Democrat Melissa McDonough in the general election scheduled for November. The 38th Congressional District of Texas is anticipated to heavily favor Republicans, with The Cook Political Report classifying the Houston-area seat as “Solid Republican.”

This congressional seat became an open contest after Representative Wesley Hunt, who was first elected in 2022, decided not to seek re-election to the House. Instead, Hunt has launched a campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Jon Bonck’s professional background includes graduating from Louisiana State University in 2009 with a degree in biochemistry. He currently works as a mortgage industry manager within the Houston area, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Bonck’s campaign received endorsements from prominent figures such as former President Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican representing Texas. He campaigned on a platform emphasizing his identity as a Christian conservative and a family man.

On his campaign website, Bonck described himself not as a “political celebrity” but rather as a “servant leader.” His website also prominently features endorsements from fellow Republican Representatives Brandon Gill and Morgan Luttrell, both from Texas.

In a candidate questionnaire conducted earlier this month in preparation for the runoff, Bonck identified affordability, immigration, and public safety as the three most significant challenges confronting the Houston-area district he aspires to represent.

Furthermore, Bonck articulated his interpretation of “America First,” stating that it involves securing the nation’s borders, halting financial aid to foreign countries without proper oversight, reducing government waste and regulations, lowering living costs, and empowering families.

Bonck also expressed his belief that the government should adopt a less intrusive role, allowing small businesses to expand and enabling parents to have greater autonomy in their children’s educational and healthcare decisions.
