SouthernWorldwide.com – Tulsi Gabbard, the outgoing Director of National Intelligence, shared a deeply personal update on Thursday, revealing that her husband, Abraham Williams, is recovering at home following a complex surgery.

Williams underwent nearly seven hours of surgery to address what Gabbard described as a “very rare sacral chordoma.” This diagnosis, a type of bone tumor, was shared in a heartfelt post on the social media platform X.

“My husband Abraham was diagnosed with a very rare sacral chordoma,” Gabbard wrote. “The surgery to remove bone and surrounding tissue lasted almost seven hours and was successful.”

She further elaborated on his current condition, stating, “He had a rough night and is in a lot of pain but is finally home resting. Now recovery begins.”

Gabbard had previously notified President Donald Trump about her husband’s health situation in mid-May during a meeting in the Oval Office. Her tenure as Director of National Intelligence was expected to conclude on June 30.

The former Congresswoman expressed immense gratitude for the support received, concluding her X post with, “We’re so grateful for the outpouring of prayers and kind messages from all of you. Our hearts are full.”

In related news, President Trump announced on Tuesday his appointment of Bill Pulte, the chief of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, as the acting Director of National Intelligence to succeed Gabbard.

“During this period, he will remain Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and Chairman of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac,” Trump stated in a post on Truth Social.

Gabbard officially assumed her role as Director of National Intelligence in February 2025. She is also a U.S. Army Reserve officer and a combat veteran. Her political career includes multiple terms in Congress as a Democrat before she transitioned to an independent and later joined the Republican Party.

Her resignation, effective June 30, 2026, was prompted by her husband’s diagnosis. In her resignation letter, she stated, “Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026. My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer.”

Gabbard acknowledged the significant challenges her husband would face in the ensuing weeks and months. “At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle,” she explained.

She spoke of her husband’s unwavering support throughout their eleven years of marriage. “Abraham has been my rock throughout our eleven years of marriage — standing steadfast through my deployment to East Africa on a Joint Special Operations mission, multiple political campaigns and now my service in this role,” she wrote.

Gabbard felt it was her duty to prioritize her husband’s well-being, adding, “I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming position.”

President Trump had responded to her resignation by acknowledging her need to support her husband. “I have no doubt he will soon be better than ever. Tulsi has done an incredible job, and we will miss her,” he wrote on Truth Social.

A sacral chordoma is characterized as a rare, slow-growing cancerous bone tumor that originates in the sacrum, the triangular bone located at the base of the spine, just above the tailbone.

The National Cancer Institute further defines chordoma as a rare form of bone cancer that can manifest at the base of the skull, along the spine, or at the very end of the spine in the sacrum or coccyx regions.
