SouthernWorldwide.com – Incumbent Representative Susie Lee, a Democrat from Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District, has secured a victory in the Democratic primary held on Tuesday.

Lee’s district, which encompasses the southern portion of the Las Vegas metropolitan area and extends to rural communities like Searchlight, the hometown of the late Senator Harry Reid, is recognized as one of the most competitive swing districts in the Western United States. It is rated D+1 by the Cook Political Report.

Lee, who has been acknowledged by Georgetown University’s Lugar Center as one of the ten most bipartisan members of Congress, faced competition from primary challengers James Lally, Terrill Robinson, and Brandon West.

Despite the recognition for her bipartisan efforts, Republicans have voiced criticism regarding Lee’s stance against the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Reports indicate that this bill proposed significant financial support for entities in rural Nevada.

According to The Center Square, Lee has garnered support from political action committees such as AIPAC and corporate entities like Boeing.

James Lally, a cardiologist and one of Lee’s primary challengers, suggested that Lee’s reputation as a bipartisan lawmaker is inaccurate. He asserted that she cannot “appease an authoritarian cult,” a statement that appears to be a veiled reference to Republican voters and supporters of Donald Trump.

The slogan “No Tax On Tips” has become a significant rallying point for Republicans in the district. This is particularly relevant given the district’s proximity to the Las Vegas Strip, which hosts a large number of tipped workers.

Terrill Robinson, another candidate in the primary, is a veteran of the Marine Corps and previously served as a staffer for neighboring Representative Dina Titus, also a Democrat from Nevada.

A statement from Robinson’s campaign website indicated his motivation for running for Congress stems from a belief that Washington has failed to serve ordinary Americans. He expressed deep concerns about the increasing influence of corporate funding, self-serving political interests, and a decline in transparency within governmental institutions.

Brandon West, a third challenger, shared his experiences working multiple jobs earlier in his career, including roles at Carl’s Jr., the Transportation Security Administration, and as a steward for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

West stated that his approach to understanding people is shaped by his hands-on experiences across various environments and perspectives. He emphasized that his life and sense of grounding are in Las Vegas.

If elected, West’s primary stated priority is to cease all United States aid to Israel. He has also expressed a desire for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to be “decommissioned.”

Meanwhile, Representative Lee recently faced scrutiny for a now-deleted social media post on X, formerly Twitter, containing strong language directed at former President Donald Trump. The post was made after Trump suggested he might attend oral arguments in a Supreme Court case concerning birthright citizenship.

Lee’s post, made shortly before 11 p.m. Mountain Time on March 31, read: “So f—ing f—ed up. I’ll pray they f— him to his face. Sorry, I say f— a lot these days.”

In response to critics who labeled her a “mentally-deranged psycho” and other accusations, Lee defended her remarks in a statement. She argued that her language clearly “touched a nerve” because she felt her own nerve was touched by what she perceived as attacks on the U.S. Constitution and its principle of separation of powers, an oath she stated she took to protect and defend.
