Horry, 55, articulated his desire for the world’s most prominent soccer event to foster a sense of togetherness among nations.

The 2026 World Cup is set to be co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada, with matches spread across 16 different cities. The United States will be the primary host, staging 78 out of the 104 total games, including the highly anticipated final match.

Mexico and Canada will each host 13 games. The tournament officially kicked off with Mexico securing a 2-0 victory over South Africa on Thursday.

Canada’s opening game is scheduled against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday at 3 p.m. ET in Toronto.

This year’s tournament features an expanded field of 48 competing countries. Defending champions Argentina will be aiming to replicate their thrilling 2022 final victory against France.

Robert Horry enjoyed a distinguished 16-season career in the NBA. He began his professional journey with the Houston Rockets, where he was an integral part of their championship teams in the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons. Following his time in Houston, the Alabama native was traded to the Phoenix Suns, playing half a season before signing with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Horry played a crucial role in the Lakers’ dominant “three-peat” from 1999 to 2001, securing his third, fourth, and fifth NBA titles during this period. After seven seasons with the Lakers, he moved to the San Antonio Spurs, where he added two more championship rings to his collection in the 2004-05 and 2006-07 seasons.

Throughout his 16-year NBA career, Horry averaged 7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
