SouthernWorldwide.com – A thrilling comeback victory for the New York Knicks during Game 4 of their series against the Spurs has unfortunately been overshadowed by a violent altercation that left a teenager in a coma.

The New York Police Department reported on Friday that a group of individuals approached a 17-year-old near Madison Square Garden. An argument ensued, escalating to the point where one person punched and kicked the teenager.

The severity of the assault was evident as the teen suffered a seizure and subsequently fell into a coma, according to the NYPD.

The New York Post, citing sources, identified the aggressor as someone who loudly proclaimed, “Spurs are up right now. We’re winning. Spurs in 7.” This statement was reportedly made in response to a comment from someone within the injured teen’s group, though not the teen himself, who retorted with offensive language directed at the Spurs.

This exchange triggered a physical brawl, which ultimately led to the teen’s critical injuries.

However, there is a glimmer of hope as the teen has reportedly emerged from the coma. He is currently in critical but stable condition, according to The Post.

The teen’s mother expressed optimism to The Post, stating, “He’s pulling through. He is responding.” She added that her son was expected to be moved out of the intensive care unit soon.

“The doctor said they will take him off the ventilator today. Hopefully he will be in a regular room tomorrow,” she further shared.

The Knicks’ dramatic comeback victory ignited widespread excitement and celebration throughout the city. However, this euphoria also led to some unfortunate incidents, including 15 arrests and reports of eggs being thrown at Spurs player Victor Wembanyama as the team returned to their hotel.

This is not the first time that fan gatherings have turned contentious during the Knicks’ playoff run. Watch parties held outside Madison Square Garden during the Eastern Conference Finals had been canceled, but they were reinstated for the initial games of the NBA Finals. These events were paused for Game 3 due to the attendance of President Donald Trump. While a large gathering was planned for Game 4, owner James Dolan ultimately decided against it, citing concerns about many fans being unable to attend.

Numerous instances of fights and other disorderly conduct have been captured on camera across the city during this period.

The New York Knicks are on the verge of clinching their first championship since 1973. Game 5 is scheduled to take place in San Antonio on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. For fans in New York, watch parties are planned outside MSG, as well as inside Radio City Music Hall and Central Park.
