SouthernWorldwide.com – Consumers will soon have the ability to scan select soda products to access additional nutritional details.

The American Beverage Association announced on Tuesday that its member companies, including The Coca-Cola Company, Keurig Dr Pepper, and PepsiCo, will implement QR codes on their packaging. These codes will direct consumers to a dedicated website managed by the trade association, offering more comprehensive information about the ingredients used in their beverages.

“Consumers are seeking enhanced transparency and are entitled to trust in the safety of their food and drinks,” stated American Beverage CEO Kevin Keane in a press release.

The website, named “Good to Know,” provides definitions and usage information for over 140 ingredients commonly found in various beverages. It also specifies the types of products in which each ingredient appears and its global authorization status.

While some ingredients listed will be familiar to the public, others, such as Lion’s Mane and L-Carnitine, may be less commonly known. It is important to note that the site does not offer a brand-specific ingredient breakdown. Therefore, consumers will still need to refer to the label on the product’s packaging for precise content details.

In addition to the major players, other beverage brands participating in this new QR code initiative include Celsius, Monster Energy, Polar Beverages, and Red Bull, as reported by NBC News.

This is not the first instance of soda companies utilizing QR codes; Coca-Cola has previously incorporated them into various promotional campaigns.

The American Beverage Association asserts that the information provided on the “Good to Know” website is consistent with data from international food safety organizations. Consumers can find safety assessments from regulatory bodies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and Health Canada.

This initiative emerges at a time when Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is actively pursuing measures to reduce the consumption of sweetened beverages as part of his “Make America Healthy Again” campaign.

Earlier this year, the Trump administration solicited public input regarding hospitals and nursing homes that serve sugary drinks and meals failing to meet the Department of Agriculture’s dietary guidelines.

Furthermore, Kennedy recently voiced concerns about the sugar content in beverages offered by Starbucks and Dunkin’, a move that generated significant reactions from both politicians and consumers.
