SouthernWorldwide.com – President Trump has issued a stern warning, vowing to impose an immediate 100% tariff on any country that implements a digital services tax on American companies.

The President voiced his concerns on social media, specifically referencing European nations that are reportedly considering such a tax. This proposed tax is designed to target companies that conduct business within a country but do not have a physical presence there, thereby avoiding traditional income tax obligations.

“European Countries have been discussing the imminent implementation of a Digital Services Tax on American Companies,” President Trump stated on Truth Social. “Some of these Countries are close to actually doing this. Please let this statement serve to represent that any Country that imposes such a Tax will immediately be met with a 100% TARIFF on any and all Goods sent to the United States of America.”

He further clarified that any new U.S. tariff on imports from these nations would supersede existing trade agreements. The 100% import duty, he emphasized, would be enacted without delay should a country move forward with a digital services tax.

According to the nonpartisan Tax Foundation, approximately half of the European members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development have either proposed, announced, or already enacted a digital services tax. The foundation also notes that these taxes would predominantly impact U.S. companies.

This declaration comes as President Trump has set a July 4 deadline for the European Union and the U.S. to finalize a trade deal. This proposed agreement aims to cap tariffs on most EU exports at 15%. Digital taxes were not included in the ongoing discussions and have remained a significant point of contention between the United States and the European bloc.
