SouthernWorldwide.com – In a significant escalation of tensions, Iran has declared that the United States has “crossed the point of no return” following reported attacks on its ports. This statement comes amidst an exchange of fire in the Strait of Hormuz, with both nations offering differing accounts of the events.
The U.S. military stated that three of its warships were subjected to an “unprovoked attack” on Thursday while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. According to U.S. officials, Iranian forces launched missiles, drones, and small assault boats. The U.S. reported that all threats were neutralized and that American forces subsequently launched “self-defense strikes” against Iranian ports adjacent to the strait.
Conversely, Iran has asserted that the U.S. initiated the hostilities by targeting Iranian ships near the strait and “civilian areas” on the shore. Iran claims its retaliatory fire was in response to these U.S. actions. Senior Iranian military officials have emphasized that the U.S. actions represent a breach of a critical threshold, vowing a proportional response.
Despite the escalating conflict, President Trump stated that the existing ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran remains in effect. However, he issued a stern warning, indicating that the U.S. would respond with significantly greater force if Tehran does not accept a peace deal.
The United Arab Emirates also reported that its air defense systems were activated early Friday morning to counter what it described as Iranian missile and drone attacks. The UAE’s defense ministry indicated that the sounds heard were a result of their systems intercepting ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones. Residents were advised to remain in safe locations and adhere to official updates.
President Trump, speaking to reporters late Thursday, commented on the potential for a deal with Iran. He suggested that an agreement “might not happen, but it could happen any day,” adding that he believed Iran desired the deal more than he did.
During a visit to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, where renovation work is underway, Mr. Trump addressed the Iranian attacks on U.S. Navy destroyers. He described the U.S. response, which involved counterattacks on Iranian ports, as a decisive action. He stated, “They trifled with us today. We blew them away. They should not have done that today.”
Mr. Trump reiterated his stance that the ceasefire was still active, despite the day’s events. He warned that if a ceasefire were not maintained, the consequences for Iran would be severe, implying widespread destruction visible from afar.
Further elaborating on the U.S. response, President Trump stated that Iran had sustained “great damage” after attacking U.S. warships. He characterized the U.S. military’s actions in deflecting Iranian boats, missiles, and drones in vivid terms, comparing the drones’ descent to the ocean to a butterfly falling to its grave.
The President criticized Iran’s leadership, calling them “LUNATICS” and asserting that they would use a nuclear weapon without hesitation if given the opportunity. He issued a direct warning about future U.S. actions if a deal is not signed quickly, stating, “we’ll knock them out a lot harder, and a lot more violently, in the future, if they don’t get their Deal signed, FAST!” The status of ongoing peace talks between the U.S. and Iran remains unclear.
U.S. Central Command confirmed that American forces conducted “self-defense strikes” on Iranian targets after three Navy destroyers were attacked with missiles and drones, though the destroyers themselves were unharmed. The command identified the destroyers as USS Truxtun, USS Mason, and USS Rafael Peralta. The U.S. military’s response included targeting Iranian facilities involved in drone and missile launches.
Reports indicate that the three U.S. Navy destroyers transiting the Strait of Hormuz faced a second round of Iranian attacks, described by American officials as more intense and sustained than a previous incident days earlier. According to U.S. officials speaking anonymously, swarms of Iranian fast-attack boats approached closely enough to prompt the U.S. warships to open fire to maintain distance.
During this confrontation, Iranian forces also deployed drones and missiles. Over several hours, the American warships and supporting aircraft implemented a comprehensive defense strategy. Despite the severity of the attacks, none of the U.S. vessels sustained any damage.

President Trump characterized the U.S. strikes on two Iranian ports as a mere “love tap,” emphasizing to ABC News that the U.S.-Iran ceasefire remained in effect. When questioned by ABC News senior political correspondent Rachel Scott about whether this meant the ceasefire was over, Mr. Trump explicitly denied it, stating, “No, no, the ceasefire is going. It’s in effect.”
