Trump Hails UN Climate Group’s Shift from Extreme Warming Scenario

SouthernWorldwide.com – President Donald Trump celebrated on Saturday after a key United Nations climate committee decided to move away from one of its most extreme global warming scenarios previously used in its climate modeling.

Trump took to social media platform Truth Social to express his strong disapproval of Democratic climate policies, stating, “GOOD RIDDANCE! After 15 years of Dumocrats promising that ‘Climate Change’ is going to destroy the Planet, the United Nations TOP Climate Committee just admitted that its own projections (RCP8.5) were WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!”

He accused Democrats of exploiting fears surrounding climate change to advance their energy policies and justify significant government spending. Trump asserted that climate activism has been misused by Democrats to frighten Americans, promote what he described as “horrible Energy Polices,” and fund billions into what he termed “bogus research programs.”

“Unlike the Dumocrats, who use Climate Alarmism nonsense to push their GREEN NEW SCAM, my Administration will always be based on TRUTH, SCIENCE, and FACT!” he declared.

This development follows reports that climate scientists are moving away from using the most severe emissions scenario developed under the United Nations-backed Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The IPCC’s most dire projections, which included substantial increases in global temperatures and sea levels, also forecast widespread crop failures and even potential extinction events comparable to those that befell the dinosaurs.

The scenario in question, known as RCP8.5 and later updated to SSP5-8.5, posited extreme global warming outcomes based on assumptions of exceptionally high emissions levels. Researchers have reportedly concluded that this scenario no longer represents the most plausible future trajectory, especially in light of the growth in renewable energy, current emissions trends, and existing climate policies.

Writing in the journal Geoscientific Model Development, researchers indicated that future climate scenarios should continue to encompass a broad spectrum of potential outcomes, ranging from severe warming to futures with lower emissions. They noted that for the 21st century, the range is likely to be narrower than previously assessed, with high emission levels (quantified by SSP5-8.5) having become implausible due to trends in renewable energy costs, the emergence of climate policy, and recent emission patterns.

Trump’s recent statements echo remarks he made in September of the previous year at the U.N. General Assembly in New York, where he famously described climate change as a “con job.” At that time, he stated, “It’s the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world, in my opinion.”

“All of these predictions made by the United Nations and many others, often for bad reasons, were wrong,” Trump had said. He further elaborated that these predictions were made by “stupid people that have cost their country’s fortunes and given those same countries no chance for success.”

Trump’s comments have, as expected, drawn criticism from Democratic figures. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, for instance, dismissed his remarks as “total disinformation.” Speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York, Clinton stated, “You know yesterday at the U.N., President Trump said, ‘Climate change is a hoax,’ because it’s just total disinformation. It’s a statement that is just not true, and yet being propagated.”

However, Trump’s stance has also found support. One individual commented, “The president is absolutely right and we’ve seen it in the name of climate change, these left wing policies willing to cause extreme economic pain for people who can at least afford it.”
