Hezbollah’s Night-Hunting Weapon Challenges Israeli Defenses, Says Expert

SouthernWorldwide.com – A defense expert has warned that Hezbollah has begun deploying “game-changing” and “lethal” nighttime drone attacks against Israel, which have contributed to casualties, breaches in defense, and widespread chaos in parts of the border region, according to reports.

These escalating actions by Hezbollah prompted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to convene an emergency security meeting on May 30. This meeting followed a surprise Hezbollah strike and came amid reports of “utter chaos” as Israeli forces struggled to mount a response.

These drones are typically utilized by ground squads for immediate tactical lethal or surveillance missions directly within the operational theater. Their capability to use thermal sensors allows them to fly at night, identifying IDF troops by their heat signatures.

“Hezbollah now has nighttime capabilities, which is game changing,” stated Chell.

He further cautioned, “What you will see is an escalation of the use of drones and the innovation of asymmetric warfare in that particular area by Hezbollah.”

Chell’s observations were made in light of reports detailing the deployment of makeshift defenses, including nets, against the backdrop of a significant shift in the conflict.

According to these reports, Israeli soldiers have resorted to purchasing commercial fishing and soccer nets to entangle the incoming aerial threats.

“This means that there is a whole other set of countermeasures that the IDF has to put in place, whether it is electronic jamming, net guns or the use of netting just to put in front of installations or in front of vehicles to try to stop the final impact of the drone if it is a strike drone,” Chell elaborated.

“The IDF will have to change a lot of their tactics regarding their ability to move around and conduct operations at night. Now they will have to factor in the fact that Hezbollah has nighttime capabilities to at least do observation using thermal cameras, as well as strike capabilities.”

Netanyahu convened a meeting with top officials following an intense Hezbollah rocket and drone barrage that caught the military off guard on Saturday.

According to a report by Channel 13, the Israeli army was surprised by the scale of the offensive and Hezbollah’s decision to alter its operational strategy in response to Israel’s expanding ground operations beyond the Litani River.

Reports from the ground depicted “utter chaos” in northern areas. While rockets were reported to have hit cities, Hezbollah simultaneously launched waves of drone strikes.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has also highlighted the militant group’s drone capabilities, describing them as an effective weapon against Israeli forces operating near and within southern Lebanon.

Netanyahu has also characterized Hezbollah’s drone capabilities as a significant threat due to the difficulty in detecting them.

“Hezbollah have got a supply line or supply chain of some sort set up,” Chell observed, adding that they are “not using stuff that is groundbreaking; this is very old technology and tactics that they are using.”

“That said, somebody is making the equipment available to Hezbollah — whether it is coming via Iran, China, Russia, Afghanistan or the black market, someone is getting enough product and feeding it into their supply chains,” Chell warned.
