SouthernWorldwide.com – All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has announced a new championship match format to crown a new TBS Champion following an injury to the current titleholder, Willow Nightingale.

Nightingale was forced to relinquish her TBS Championship due to an injury. This unfortunate circumstance also led to her withdrawal from the Owen Hart Tournament.

In response, AEW will introduce the “Survival of the Fittest” match for the first time to determine the next TBS Champion. This announcement was made on Saturday’s episode of “Collision.”

The Survival of the Fittest match is typically a staple of Ring of Honor (ROH). It is a multi-person elimination contest where the last competitor standing, after all others have been pinned, is declared the winner.

ROH has previously utilized this match type, notably at its Supercard of Honor event, where it was contested for the women’s world championship. Athena successfully defended her title in that instance.

The new TBS Champion will be crowned on the upcoming July 1 episode of “Dynamite.” Leading up to this main event, six qualifying matches will be held to determine the participants who will compete in the Survival of the Fittest match.

The TBS Championship has been positioned as a significant title for female competitors, often seen as the equivalent of the TNT Championship for the men’s division. It serves as a top prize for those not currently in the main event world championship picture.

Willow Nightingale held the TBS Championship for 140 days. She initially won the title by defeating Mercedes Moné at “Dynamite: New Year’s Smash.” This marked her second reign as TBS Champion.

Chaos Erupts at the End of “Collision”

In other “Collision” action, Konosuke Takeshita successfully defended his AEW International Championship against Daniel Garcia. This was Takeshita’s first title defense since his victory over Kazuchika Okada at Double or Nothing.

Following the match, the Don Callis Family, from whom Takeshita had seemingly been ousted, made their presence known. Rocky Romero, Brian Cage, Lance Archer, Trent Baretta, and the returning Jack Doyle attacked Takeshita.

Simultaneously, Jon Moxley, who was providing commentary for the match, was also assaulted. The attackers included Shane Taylor, Shawn Dean, and Carlie Bravo, with fellow Death Riders member Marina Shafir joining in.

The situation escalated as “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong rushed to the ring to aid Takeshita and Moxley.

The chaotic brawl continued as the broadcast of “Collision” went off the air, leaving fans in suspense.
