SouthernWorldwide.com – Analyst Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk believes New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart failed to address the core issue when he issued a statement regarding his introduction of former President Donald Trump at a New York event.
Dart’s decision to introduce Trump drew significant criticism from a variety of sources, including fans, media members, and even his teammate, Abdul Carter.
In an attempt to move past the controversy, Dart released a statement. However, this statement only intensified the backlash, according to Florio.
Florio argued on “Pro Football Talk Live” that Dart “punted” on the “most important question” posed by the press: whether he understood why his introduction of Trump was controversial.
Florio emphasized that this was the only question that truly needed an answer. He stated that Dart’s statement attempted to frame the event as apolitical, which Florio deemed impossible given the current political climate.
“Merely being there and introducing the president is a political statement,” Florio asserted. He believes anyone claiming otherwise is trying to advance an agenda to excuse Dart and criticize Abdul Carter.
Abdul Carter had previously expressed his surprise on X, initially believing a video of Dart and Trump was AI-generated, questioning the decision with “What are we doing man?”
Dart acknowledged that politics are a “sensitive matter” and that as the team’s starting quarterback, he carries a responsibility. Despite the differing viewpoints, Dart and Carter reportedly hugged it out after speaking with the media about the situation.
Carter conveyed his belief in standing by one’s convictions. “Stand on what you believe in. But it can’t be a problem when I stand on what I believe in. That’s all that matters to me. As long as we have that understanding, it’s all good,” he said.
Dart echoed this sentiment, highlighting the strong bond he shares with Carter, having gone through similar experiences and adversities together. “I mean, we just talked,” Dart added. “You know, me and Abdul came here at the same time. We shared a lot of very similar experiences. We’ve experienced adversity through a season and had to have each other’s backs and that’s exactly what we continued to do today.”

Teammate Jameis Winston expressed pride in both Dart and Carter for their willingness to have an open conversation and address the media. Winston also commended the team for understanding that they do not need to take sides in such matters.
