SouthernWorldwide.com – Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has stated she requires additional time to thoroughly review new reports concerning Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner before offering any commentary on the emerging allegations of aggressive behavior.
Ocasio-Cortez explained that the information had only recently surfaced and that she had been occupied with legislative duties. She emphasized the need to delve into the details before making any public statements.
“I don’t want to speak before I’ve dug into a lot of, you know, to before I’ve dug into what’s out there. So, I just want to be respectful of that man,” she added, indicating a desire to approach the situation with due diligence and respect.
This cautious stance from Ocasio-Cortez comes in the wake of a report published by The New York Times on Thursday. The report detailed the experiences of several women who had been romantically involved with Platner in the past.

These women recounted disturbing allegations, including fantasies of rape, excessive alcohol consumption, and instances of violent behavior.
Platner himself acknowledged a difficult period in his life, stating in a released statement, “Throughout this campaign, I’ve been open about what was a very dark period of my life where I struggled with undiagnosed PTSD, too often self-medicated with alcohol and was far from a perfect boyfriend.”
One accuser, Fifield, described an incident where Platner allegedly pushed her into a bedroom and held the door shut. She reported being able to leave only after falling asleep and waking up some time later.
Notably, Ocasio-Cortez, a fellow progressive, has yet to officially endorse Platner in his bid to unseat Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine.

The recent reporting from The New York Times contributes to an already mounting list of concerns surrounding Platner’s candidacy.
Platner has faced significant criticism for a variety of reasons. These include making insensitive remarks about sexual abuse, race, and terror. He has also drawn scrutiny for a tattoo associated with Nazi imagery and for allegedly sending inappropriate messages to multiple women outside of his marriage.
Among other resurfaced comments, Platner once posted on Reddit that he blamed rape victims for failing to protect themselves.
His comment from 2013 read, “How about people just take some responsibility for themselves and not so f—ed up when they wind up having sex with someone they don’t mean to?”

Platner, who appears to be on track to secure the Democratic nomination to challenge Senator Collins, recently met with other senators earlier this week. During these meetings, he reportedly sought to reassure them about his potential candidacy.
Maine is scheduled to hold its Senate primaries next Tuesday.
