SouthernWorldwide.com – IndyCar rookie Caio Collet was involved in a frightening incident during the latter stages of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday afternoon. The crash occurred as Felix Rosenqvist and Pato O’Ward were vying for the lead.
Collet lost control of his vehicle in Turn 2 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His attempt to correct the slide was just enough to send his car into the wall. Following the impact, his right rear tire caught fire as he slid across the track and onto the infield grass.
Emergency crews were quick to respond, extinguishing the flames and assisting Collet out of his car. Fortunately, he was able to walk away from the significant wreck unharmed.
The incident prompted track officials to issue a red flag, halting the race. This stoppage provided drivers with a brief respite before what promised to be an intense final few laps, a true shootout for the victory.

Due to the crash, Collet will be unable to finish the race and will consequently fall in the final standings. This marked Collet’s debut in the prestigious Indy 500.
The A.J. Foyt Racing driver had earned his place in the NTT IndyCar Series after securing second place in the Indy NXT Series last year. His success in Indy NXT included three race victories in 2025.
Prior to the Indy 500, the Brazilian driver was positioned 21st in the IndyCar standings, accumulating 70 points across six starts. He had not yet achieved a top-10 finish in his inaugural season.
The 2026 Indy 500 had already showcased considerable excitement with over 50 lead changes, establishing itself as one of the most competitive races in recent memory.
Ultimately, Felix Rosenqvist emerged victorious, claiming the win on the very last lap of the race.
