Charles Woodson Jr., a defensive back hailing from Orlando, Florida, demonstrated his capabilities last season by recording an impressive 73 tackles, along with two interceptions and eight pass breakups. His commitment to Michigan comes after considering offers from other prominent programs, including Texas A&M and Ole Miss.
The younger Woodson is recognized as a three-star recruit within the Class of 2027, according to 247 Sports. Furthermore, he is ranked among the top 100 safeties in his graduating class by the same recruiting service.
His father, Charles Woodson, was a standout player for Michigan from 1995 to 1997 and is widely considered one of the greatest players in the program’s storied history. During his time with the Wolverines, Woodson excelled as a defensive back, while also contributing as a wide receiver and return specialist.
Woodson’s collegiate career began with him earning Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors in 1995. He culminated his time at Michigan by winning the Heisman Trophy in 1997, becoming the first primarily defensive player to achieve this prestigious award. That same year, he helped lead the Wolverines to an undefeated season and a national championship victory before declaring for the NFL Draft.
The elder Woodson was selected fourth overall in the 1998 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders, embarking on a highly successful professional career. Over 18 seasons in the league, playing for both the Raiders and the Green Bay Packers, he amassed 981 solo tackles, 65 interceptions, and 20 sacks.
