SouthernWorldwide.com – Carnival Cruise Line is experiencing a backlash from consumers following the cancellation of numerous cruise reservations. These bookings were made at drastically reduced prices due to a significant website pricing glitch.
The incident is understood to have occurred after a scheduled IT maintenance project, which subsequently impacted parts of the cruise line’s booking system. This led to the erroneous display of exceptionally low fares for several sailings.
“After the site maintenance on Saturday, I was able to book a solo balcony on a 6-day cruise for $300 yesterday. … Hoping Carnival will honor the price because it was quite literally a steal,” a passenger who managed to book a reservation shared on Reddit’s r/CarnivalCruiseFans forum.
Typically, a cruise of five to seven days with Carnival costs between $600 and $1,500 per person. This cost can vary depending on the chosen destination.

However, Carnival later canceled these bookings. Affected customers reportedly received an email from the company stating that the displayed prices were “far below any reasonable promotional fare.”
The cancellations have ignited a debate online, with some travelers advocating for Carnival to honor the bookings, despite the evident pricing error.
“Sometimes when a company makes a mistake, they should just take the loss,” one user expressed on Reddit.
Another traveler mentioned that they had already booked flights after securing what they believed to be a legitimate deal.
Conversely, many others argued that the prices were simply too low to be genuine.
“If it looks too good to be true, it probably is,” one commenter stated.
“You took advantage of a ‘glitch.’ They don’t have to honor that,” another commenter added.
Some users also pointed out that pricing errors are not uncommon across the travel industry and are frequently canceled once identified.
Carnival’s ticket contract stipulates that if a cruise fare is listed or advertised incorrectly due to an electronic, typographical, human, or other error, the company reserves the right to either request the guest to pay the correct fare or cancel the cruise and issue a full refund.
Despite this contractual clause, several travelers felt that Carnival could have handled the situation differently. This sentiment was particularly strong among customers who had already made additional travel arrangements based on their booking.
