SouthernWorldwide.com – A tragic incident occurred at Orlando International Airport (MCO) on Thursday night, resulting in the death of a Delta Air Lines employee.
The employee was fatally injured when an airport tug vehicle collided with a jet bridge. The accident took place around 10:55 p.m. local time.
The tug vehicle struck the jet bridge while Delta Air Lines Flight 2593 was parked at the gate. This information was confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Following the collision, passengers on board the aircraft were safely deplaned. They disembarked using the rear door and airstairs.
Delta Air Lines confirmed that the employee was on duty at the time of the incident. The airline expressed its profound grief over the loss of their team member.
“The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of a team member while on the job at Orlando International Airport on the evening of May 7,” a spokesperson for Delta stated.

The airline is prioritizing support for the deceased employee’s family and their colleagues in Orlando. Delta is cooperating with local authorities in the ongoing investigation.
Operations at the airport were temporarily halted immediately after the crash. Consequently, one flight departure had to be canceled.
Affected passengers were re-accommodated on other flights to their destinations. This ensured minimal disruption to their travel plans.
A spokesperson for the Orlando International Airport also conveyed their sadness regarding the incident. They extended their deepest sympathies to the victim’s loved ones.
“The MCO community is deeply saddened about the loss of a team member from one of our airline partners, a member of our extended airport family,” the MCO spokesperson said. “We send our condolences to his family and friends.”
The Orlando Police Department has taken the lead in conducting the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
