SouthernWorldwide.com – A prominent Democratic Senator has refrained from directly labeling illegal immigration as a national security risk, this following the revelation that the alleged terror plot targeting a UFC White House event on Sunday night was orchestrated by an individual who is an immigrant from Mexico.
When pressed for comment, the Senator, a Democrat from Washington, offered a general statement regarding security. “We must have a robust national security system in place, and our priority is to prevent terrorist attacks,” she stated, maintaining a degree of ambiguity in her response.
She further elaborated, “I will investigate the specific details further. I am not yet aware of them.”
The individual in question, identified as Alvarez, 31, reportedly overstayed his B2 visitor visa, which expired in 2001 after he initially entered the U.S. as a child. He was subsequently granted protected status through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program by the Obama administration in 2014, a measure that provided relief from deportation. He has remained in the United States under this program since then.
Senator Cantwell is not among the Democrats who have advocated for a particularly stringent immigration policy within Congress. However, she has consistently voiced her disapproval of aggressive immigration enforcement tactics, especially those implemented during the Trump administration.
Cantwell has, on multiple occasions since President Donald Trump assumed office, voted to challenge certain actions taken by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These challenges have often pertained to allegations of racial profiling by ICE officers. She has also advocated for immigration enforcement to refrain from detaining undocumented pregnant individuals and has supported investigations into the conditions within detention facilities.
Additionally, in January 2025, she voted against the Laken Riley Act. This legislation mandates that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) detain illegal immigrants who have been accused of specific offenses, including theft, assault, burglary, and shoplifting, among others.
In addition to Alvarez, five other individuals have been apprehended this month in connection with the alleged terror plot aimed at the White House UFC event that took place over the weekend.
Federal authorities have indicated that the motive behind the planned attack was linked to perceived government corruption, Israel’s influence on American policy, and the handling of sensitive information related to Jeffrey Epstein.
During communications with a co-conspirator, Alvarez expressed a desire for “as many and as deadly [explosive drones] as we can get.” Investigators also noted that the suspect’s stated objective was to target “capitalist elites,” billionaires, and politicians who receive funding from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
Out of the 23 individuals identified as being involved in the planning of the terror attack, 18 have yet to be formally charged.
Each suspect faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of $250,000. An additional five-year sentence could be imposed if they are also convicted of planning to carry out acts of violence on White House grounds.
