SouthernWorldwide.com – Former President Donald Trump has mused about the possibility of Hunter Biden entering the 2028 presidential race, humorously suggesting the younger Biden could have a chance if candidates facing significant scandals, like Maine Senate hopeful Graham Platner, can endure the political scrutiny.
Hunter Biden’s increased activity on the platform X since May has fueled speculation about his potential political aspirations.
“I would say his past is not the greatest,” Trump commented.
Trump then drew a parallel, stating, “Hey, if the guy from Maine can do well, well, I guess Hunter could do well, too, because the guy from Maine is a basket case.”
The candidate Trump referred to, Graham Platner, is entangled in numerous campaign controversies. These include a deleted Reddit account, a tattoo associated with Nazism, allegations of hard drug use and sexting, and a recent New York Times report detailing his alleged past conduct with former girlfriends. In contrast, Hunter Biden has a well-documented history of substance abuse and legal challenges, which famously culminated in a pardon from his father shortly before Trump’s departure from office.
Despite the string of controversies, Platner remains a competitive figure in the polls as he challenges incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins.
Trump also likened a potential Hunter Biden presidential bid in 2028 to James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for Senate in Texas.
“And I would say worse than him is the one from Texas that looks like Alfred E. Neuman,” Trump remarked. “I would say that if he can do well, maybe Hunter can do well. I’m not sure, it’ll be pretty close as far as I’m concerned.”
Speaking to reporters at an event focused on the administration’s investments in coal energy, Trump also shared insights into former President Joe Biden’s mental state following a private meeting they had after the 2024 elections.
A reporter inquired, “President Biden is out promoting a new book this week. When you met with Joe Biden, President Joe Biden, right here in the Oval Office on November the 13th of 2024, could you detect any cognitive decline in President Biden at that time?”
“No, not really. I mean, he was the same guy I’ve been watching for a long time,” Trump replied.
“He was fine as far as I was concerned,” Trump added, noting, “I don’t know, something happened to him during the debate. It could have been me.”
Trump characterized President Biden as “never the sharpest guy.”
