SouthernWorldwide.com – U.S. Senator JD Vance stated on Tuesday that the Department of Justice is investigating allegations of immigration fraud against Representative Ilhan Omar. These claims stem from long-standing accusations that she entered into a marriage with an individual believed by critics to be her brother.
Vance addressed reporters, fielding questions about the administration’s anti-fraud task force. This initiative, established by former President Donald Trump, aims to combat fraud, waste, and abuse within federal benefit programs. When asked if the task force would scrutinize Omar, a vocal critic of Trump, Vance responded.
“You read the things about Ilhan Omar… who she married and whether she didn’t marry this person or that person,” Vance said. “It certainly seems like something fishy is there, but everybody’s entitled to equal justice under the law.”
These remarks follow a podcast interview in March. During that discussion with conservative commentator Benny Johnson, Vance revealed he had spoken with White House immigration advisor Stephen Miller. The conversation reportedly centered on potential legal actions against the congresswoman.
Vance had previously stated, “We think Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America.”
Omar has been the subject of scrutiny for an extended period concerning allegations of marrying an individual whom critics claim is her brother, as part of an alleged immigration scheme. Omar has consistently denied these allegations, and no public records have substantiated the claim. In December, she characterized the accusations as “bigoted lies” on social media, suggesting that Trump was fixated on her.

“He needs serious help,” Omar wrote on X. “Since he has no economic policies to tout, he’s resorting to regurgitating bigoted lies instead.”
Born in Somalia, Omar arrived in the United States in 1995. Her family was granted asylum, and she became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2000.
Reports indicate that Omar entered into a religious marriage with Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi in 2002. Subsequently, in 2009, she legally married Ahmed Elmi, a British citizen. Some sources allege that Elmi is Omar’s brother. Despite her legal marriage to Elmi, Omar reportedly maintained her religious union with Hirsi, with whom she continued to have children.
Omar and Elmi separated in 2011, though their legal divorce was not finalized until 2017. In 2020, Omar married political consultant Tim Mynett.
On Tuesday, Vance reiterated his belief that authorities would investigate the matter. He stated, “If we think that there’s a crime, we’re going to prosecute that crime. And that’s something the Department of Justice is looking at right now.”
