SouthernWorldwide.com – The Indianapolis Grand Prix on Saturday was marked by numerous accidents, with IndyCar star Christian Lundgaard ultimately securing his first win since 2023.
Among the more dramatic incidents of the day was one involving Felix Rosenqvist. As he approached Turn 13 on Lap 29 of the road course, Rosenqvist collided with Pato O’Ward, sending his car airborne.
Rosenqvist attempted to continue racing despite the damage, but his vehicle was too compromised. He was forced to retire from the race.
His participation concluded prematurely, and he finished in 23rd place, a significant drop from his starting position of third.

The wreck involving Rosenqvist was not an isolated event. The race saw considerable contact between drivers from the outset. Even before the first lap was completed, there was bumping on the front stretch as the field took the green flag.
As the pack entered Turn 1, several drivers were caught in a spin. Notably, Rosenqvist was also involved in this earlier incident.
The challenging conditions and aggressive racing led to several prominent drivers failing to finish. Marcus Ericsson, Christian Rasmussen, and Alexander Rossi all retired from the race without completing the full distance.
Romain Grosjean managed to finish the race, but he was a lap down, indicating the difficulties faced by many competitors.
The race was punctuated by 12 laps under caution, a testament to the frequent disruptions. There were also six lead changes throughout the event, with four different drivers holding the lead at various points.
The most impactful lead change occurred late in the race. Christian Lundgaard made a decisive pass on David Malukas with just 18 laps remaining.
Lundgaard then maintained his position, fending off all challengers for the remainder of the race to claim a hard-fought victory.
The Indianapolis Grand Prix served as the traditional prelude to the much-anticipated Indianapolis 500. Following this event, IndyCar drivers will now shift their focus to one of the most prestigious races on the motorsport calendar.
