SouthernWorldwide.com – Ford Motor Company is initiating a recall for nearly 420,000 vehicles due to a critical issue with the seat belts, which could heighten the risk of passenger injury.
According to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the seat belts in specific models of Ford Expedition and Lincoln vehicles may malfunction. This malfunction could lead to the belts being unable to retract or extend properly.
The affected vehicles include model years from 2018 through 2022. NHTSA highlighted that seat belts failing to retract or extend as intended could compromise their ability to properly restrain occupants during a collision.
This failure consequently increases the potential for injuries in the event of a crash. Ford has informed the safety agency that it is aware of one reported injury linked to this seat belt defect.
The automotive manufacturer is set to begin notifying owners of the affected vehicles by mail starting June 8. Ford and Lincoln dealerships will conduct an inspection of these vehicles. They will then proceed to replace the seat belt retractors at no cost to the vehicle owner.
The specific recall number for this seat belt issue is 26S34. This addresses a significant safety concern for owners of these popular Ford and Lincoln SUVs.
In a separate action, Ford has also issued a “Do Not Drive” warning for approximately 4,653 of its Maverick and Bronco Sport vehicles. This warning is due to an issue with the improper assembly of their suspension systems.
The problem specifically involves the front lower control arm ball joints. Ford indicated in its notice that these components might have been installed incorrectly or repaired improperly at the vehicle assembly plant.
This incorrect assembly could lead to the control arm disconnecting from the front wheel knuckle. Such a failure would severely compromise the vehicle’s steering and stability.
The recall concerning the suspension system affects certain 2021-2026 Bronco Sport vehicles and 2022-2026 Maverick vehicles. Ford strongly advises owners of these specific models not to drive their vehicles until the necessary repairs are completed.
Dealers will examine the defective parts and carry out the required repairs free of charge, as stated in the recall notice. This measure is crucial for ensuring the safety and integrity of the vehicle’s suspension.
