SouthernWorldwide.com – Former IndyCar driver Rick Treadway has tragically passed away at the age of 56 following a motorcycle accident. The news was confirmed by the company on Saturday.
Treadway was a familiar face in the IndyCar circuit, notably participating in the prestigious 2002 Indianapolis 500. He drove for his father, Fred Treadway’s, race team during that event.
In the 2002 Indianapolis 500, Treadway started the race in 17th position and ultimately finished in 29th. His debut in the IndyCar circuit occurred in 2001 at Kentucky Speedway, joining the series midway through the season.
The following season, Treadway made a total of eight starts. His Indy 500 appearance marked the pinnacle of his IndyCar Series career, which spanned 11 races across the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
These races were primarily for his father’s teams, Treadway-Hubbard Racing and Treadway Racing, as stated by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in a released statement.

The racing community has been quick to pay tribute to Treadway. Fellow IndyCar drivers such as Conor Daly and Arie Luyendyk shared their condolences and memories on social media platform X.
Conor Daly expressed his sadness, noting Treadway’s significance to a specific audience of his podcast, “@SpeedStreetPod.” He vowed to continue their #indy500 driver research in Treadway’s honor.
Arie Luyendyk also shared his sorrow, extending condolences to Fred Treadway, Janice, and Brian Treadway. Luyendyk described Rick Treadway as a personality who was “fun, crazy, humble, wild and brave.”
The racing community’s sentiments were echoed with messages like “RIP Ricky. We are thinking of you, Treadway family.”
Prior to his IndyCar endeavors, Treadway also competed in the Formula 2000 junior formula racing series. He further participated in the Indy Legends Charity Pro-Am Race for five consecutive years, from 2014 to 2018.
