SouthernWorldwide.com – After months of uncertainty surrounding his role, Giants General Manager Joe Schoen is set to continue leading the team’s front office.

The New York Giants have officially agreed to a multi-year contract extension with Joe Schoen, as announced by the team on Thursday. Specific details regarding the duration of the new deal have not yet been disclosed.

This agreement comes a few months after the Giants brought in John Harbaugh as their new head coach. While Schoen was instrumental in the process of hiring Harbaugh, who boasts an impressive 18-season tenure with the Baltimore Ravens and a Super Bowl victory in 2012, there had been speculation about Schoen’s own future with the organization.

Schoen’s tenure has faced scrutiny, particularly concerning his decision to let running back Saquon Barkley depart in free agency during the 2024 offseason. Barkley subsequently joined the Giants’ rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, where he experienced a remarkable season, accumulating 2,005 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, and contributing to their Super Bowl LIX victory.

In conjunction with Barkley’s departure, the Giants signed quarterback Daniel Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract in 2023. The team’s performance in the subsequent two seasons was a modest 9-25. Jones was later released and went on to play for the Minnesota Vikings before joining the Indianapolis Colts last season, where he narrowly missed leading them to the playoffs.

Beyond these decisions, Schoen has been responsible for other significant moves. The Giants traded the 39th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to acquire star edge rusher Brian Burns, who recorded 16.5 sacks last season. In the 2025 NFL Draft, Schoen orchestrated a trade-up to the 25th overall pick to select quarterback Jaxson Dart. Furthermore, just four days before the 2026 NFL Draft, New York traded veteran defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for the 10th overall pick, which was then used to select offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa.

With this new contract extension, Schoen will not only have the opportunity to collaborate with Head Coach John Harbaugh, whom he helped bring to New York, but he will also be tasked with overseeing the development of the young core of players he has helped assemble.

The foundation of the Giants’ future appears to be built around promising talents such as quarterback Jaxson Dart, offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa, wide receiver Malik Nabers, running back Cameron Skattebo, and linebackers Arvell Reese and Abdul Carter.
