SouthernWorldwide.com – New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has expressed strong admiration for his new head coach, John Harbaugh, calling him the ideal leader for the team.
“What he wants to do is what everybody on this team wants to be about. We’re hungry to win. I couldn’t think of a better coach to play for,” Dart stated in a recent interview with ESPN.
Harbaugh was appointed as the Giants’ head coach in January. This move followed his departure from the Baltimore Ravens, where he served as head coach for 18 seasons. During his tenure with the Ravens from 2008 to 2025, Harbaugh led the team to a regular-season record of 180-113 and a postseason record of 13-11, culminating in a Super Bowl XLVII victory.

The addition of Matt Nagy, former offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs and ex-head coach of the Chicago Bears, as the Giants’ offensive coordinator has also fueled optimism, particularly for the team’s second-year quarterback.
“I just think that we’re very versatile,” Dart commented on the team’s revamped offense. “I think it starts there. The other thing is I just can’t wait for all my boys to be back healthy. I’m excited for the pieces that we’ve brought in that are going to help us a ton. We’re just going to be a physical, violent team, and that goes on the offensive side of the ball, the defensive side of the ball and special teams. I can’t wait to get out there.”
Dart is coming off a promising rookie season where he started in 12 games. Across his 14 appearances in 2025, the former Ole Miss standout amassed 2,272 passing yards, threw 15 touchdowns against five interceptions, and achieved a passer rating of 91.7, completing 63.7% of his passes. He also contributed significantly with his legs, rushing for 487 yards and nine touchdowns.
Regarding the Giants’ recovering key offensive players, star wide receiver Malik Nabers, who was a Pro Bowler in his 2024 rookie season and set a Giants single-season record with 109 receptions in 15 games that year, is currently rehabilitating from a torn ACL sustained in Week 4 of last season. Additionally, running back Cam Skattebo’s 2025 rookie season was cut short after eight games due to a dislocated ankle and fractured fibula. In those eight games, Skattebo recorded 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns with an average of 4.1 yards per carry, alongside 24 receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns.
The new “pieces” Dart referred to include significant additions like former Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely, who signed a three-year, $40 million deal. The team also brought in former Ravens All-Pro fullback Patrick Ricard on a two-year, $7.6 million deal. On the wide receiver front, they signed former Atlanta Falcons receiver Darnell Mooney to a one-year, $3 million contract and former Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Calvin Austin on a one-year, $1.5 million deal, among other offensive acquisitions. In the 2026 NFL Draft, the Giants bolstered their offensive line by selecting Miami Hurricanes lineman Francis Mauigoa with the 10th overall pick and traded up to secure Notre Dame Fighting Irish wide receiver Malachi Fields at pick number 74.
The Giants are looking to rebound after a challenging 4-13 season. Their performance over the last three seasons has seen them secure only 13 victories, highlighting the need for the changes and renewed energy brought by the new coaching staff and player acquisitions.
