SouthernWorldwide.com – A seasoned Republican strategist, Tom Sell, has emerged victorious over a populist, MAGA-aligned contender, Abraham Enriquez, in a primary runoff election held in one of the most conservative congressional districts in Texas.

Sell, who brings a wealth of experience from agricultural consulting, secured his win on election night. He garnered a significant percentage of the vote in the solidly Republican 19th Congressional District located in West Texas.

A businessman and a fifth-generation resident of West Texas, Sell positioned himself as an “America-first” advocate and a “champion for rural America.” His campaign received crucial endorsements from prominent House Republican leaders.

These key endorsements included Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana, Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minnesota, and Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan of Ohio. Additionally, Sell gained support from newer members of Congress, such as Representatives Brandon Gill of Texas and Anna Paulina Luna of Florida.

Meanwhile, Abraham Enriquez, a younger candidate who presented himself as an anti-establishment figure in the race, received () percent of the vote.

Enriquez, the founder of Bienvenido, an organization focused on conservative Hispanic outreach, ran on a platform emphasizing an “America-first” and “pro-Trump” agenda. His campaign was backed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Turning Point Action, and the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

Notably, former President Donald Trump did not issue an endorsement in this particular race.

The 19th Congressional District, which encompasses extensive areas of West Texas including cities like Lubbock and Abilene, is recognized as a strong Republican stronghold. Consequently, Sell’s victory in the primary effectively ensures his succession of the outgoing Representative Jodey Arrington, a Republican from Texas, who is retiring from Congress.

Representative Arrington, aged 53, had previously received an endorsement for re-election from President Trump. However, he ultimately decided not to seek another term. In a statement announcing his decision, Arrington expressed his belief that public service is a lifelong commitment, but public office should be viewed as a temporary stewardship rather than a career.
