SouthernWorldwide.com – The Toronto Police Service is actively investigating a tragic incident of gunfire that erupted on Saturday night during a large Latin street festival in Midtown Toronto. The shooting resulted in the deaths of at least two individuals and left four others with injuries.
Authorities reported receiving calls about the shooting at the intersection of St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue at approximately 8:12 p.m. local time. Upon arrival, first responders encountered an active shooter situation.
Emergency personnel discovered six people who had sustained gunshot wounds. Tragically, two of these victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The exact circumstances that led to the shooting remain unclear. Law enforcement officials have stated that the suspect or suspects involved are still at large.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Toronto Transit Commission temporarily halted train services at the nearby St. Clair West station on Line 1 Yonge-University. This measure was taken due to what officials termed a “security incident.”
Normal transit operations have since been restored.
Law enforcement had urged the public to stay clear of the affected area and to adhere to all instructions provided by officers on the ground.
The event where the violence occurred was the TD Salsa on St. Clair Festival, recognized as Toronto’s premier celebration of Latin culture. This year marked the festival’s 22nd annual event, held in Toronto’s Hillcrest Village.
